Because we value biblically based discipleship, we probably won’t ever quite look like a typical youth group in format. We still have fun, play games and do fun social events, but in their respective places. Our goal is to teach our students the sufficiency of scripture, how God’s word not only guides us, but it transforms us, it shapes us - it becomes the standard (or cannon if you will) by which everything is measured by. We desire to have our students graduate with a love for God’s word and a desire to see his kingdom come and his will be done. We will break for topical discussions on occasion, but the majority of our teaching time together, we are in God’s word. Houston, we have a problem...
It is apparent that entertainment based youth programs are not working (there’s a surprise). Let me rephrase; if the goal is to offer a safe place to babysit young adults then it is working, but it’s not so effective if the goal is discipleship and preparing students for adult life. Not that we have things all together by any means, yet our prayer would be for students to graduate on mission and seek God’s direction for what He has next for them.
